Galilee, Samaria and Judea were no backwater. From these two discoveries some scholars infer the presence of Greco-Roman philosophy in Galilee. The logic goes something like this: where there were Greco-Roman style urban centres, and where Greek was spoken, it follows that there were Greco-Roman philosophers
